How this list works
About the 2026 bank holiday list.
India's bank holiday list is not a single uniform calendar – under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the Reserve Bank of India publishes the holiday list state-by-state and city-by-city. The national holiday list applies to every bank branch in the country, while each state and union territory layers on its own regional holidays for festivals, observances, and state-specific public holidays.
In addition to the dated holidays in this list, all banks across India remain closed on every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. The first, third, and (when applicable) fifth Saturdays are working days at most branches.
